In Memoriam

Bruce H. White, 1933-2005

Bruce H. WhiteBruce Hagle White, Esq. was born in Evanston, Illinois on January 6, 1933. He left Chicago in 1951 and never looked back, because as he said, “It’s cold there.” He attended UCLA but transferred to Whittier College in 1955 where he met his future wife, Betty Jane Carter.

After working as an insurance adjuster for several years Bruce attended Cal Western Law School and was admitted to the California bar in 1966. He and his new law partner came to Escondido in 1968 and set up shop on 3rd Avenue. Judge Fio Lopardo is remembered saying, to “watch those two, they are going to be the best lawyers in town someday.” He had the heart of a native San Diegan, often wearing shorts to work (much to the dismay of his partners).

Bruce and David S. Bright started White and Bright in 1981. Although Bruce recognized that there was more money to be made elsewhere, he loved the practice of law and was active in the practice until his death in 2005. He was a trusted counselor and learned friend and is missed by all who came to rely on his unmatched intellect and sound advice.
