Bridget B. Burns's Profile Image

Bridget B. Burns

White and Bright, LLP Partner Bridget Burns leads the firm’s Asset Protection and Trusts, Estates and Probate practices. She joined the firm in 2021 and was quickly promoted to partner. As head of the estate planning and asset protection teams, she focused on expanding the group and its services.

Bridget serves:

  • Professionals and small business owners balancing family and business priorities
  • Real estate owners navigating California’s shifting property and tax laws
  • Families caring for multiple generations, from aging parents to young children

In today’s shifting legal and economic landscape, working with an attorney like Bridget is especially valuable. The permanently high federal estate tax exemption means that many older estate plans are more complicated than necessary, while California’s property tax laws continue to evolve in ways that can catch families off guard. Add in an uncertain economy and rising real estate values, and the need for clear, adaptable planning becomes even more urgent. Bridget helps clients navigate these moving parts with strategies that safeguard assets, simplify outdated plans and provide the flexibility to adjust as laws and circumstances change.

Trusted Guidance for Asset Protection and Estate Law

Bridget’s asset protection work includes structuring finances and legal arrangements to shield property, investments and business interests from lawsuits, creditors or other claims. With her trusted counsel, clients can reduce risk, preserve wealth and ensure assets are passed on according to their wishes.

On the estate planning side of her practice, Bridget works with clients as they make thoughtful decisions to protect their families and ease future burdens. With deep experience creating legally sound wills, trusts and related estate planning documents, she helps clients direct how they want their assets managed or distributed.

She also serves as a professional trust administrator to properly manage assets, taxes and other legal requirements following the death of a trust holder. Her work helps prevent costly mistakes and family conflict, making a difficult time less stressful and more orderly.

Believing that estate planning should be accessible to all, Bridget regularly hosts free community seminars to demystify the probate and asset protection process and highlight the importance of proactive planning.

Litigation Experience, Planning Advantage

Having begun her career as a litigator representing businesses in complex disputes, Bridget understands how to craft and manage estate and asset protection plans that minimize ambiguity, reduce potential disputes and ultimately prevent litigation. She pivoted from business litigation to asset protection and estate law after recognizing that a better way to serve her clients was to help them proactively plan rather than fight legal battles.

Clients often describe her as straightforward, responsive and easy to understand — qualities she considers essential in guiding people through decisions that can feel overwhelming but are important to make.

Beyond the Office

Bridget is a part of the California Estate Planning Study Group, where she collaborates with other professionals to stay at the forefront of estate planning developments. In addition, Bridget is a member of Women’s Empowerment International, a nonprofit organization focused on empowering impoverished women through microfinance loans and business training.

Coming from a family of lawyers, Bridget was raised on reading and curiosity. She now lives in San Marcos with her husband, their young son and daughter, and the family’s terrier mix, Indy. Outside of work, she (still) enjoys reading and exploring the outdoors with her family.

Representative Matters

  • Negotiated a global settlement that received fast court approval in a probate case involving an individual who died without an estate plan and left behind multi-state real estate holdings, investments and handwritten instructions. Multiple heirs, potential beneficiaries and caregivers claiming promised gifts could have led to a long court battle.
  • Structured an estate plan for an entrepreneur with business interests in multiple countries to allow him to expand into high-risk industries without jeopardizing his existing personal and business assets.
  • Developed a strategic estate plan to help a high-net-worth individual maximize charitable contributions while ensuring business continuity.
